Rubiks Revolution trades up to LED
The Rubiks cube concept makes a revolutionary and visionary
move
With the Rubiks
revolution game concept the famed Cube trades up to
LED.
Undeniably, RubiksRevolution is a visionary move and a fun
rethink of the old game. But does it go far enough?
We believe LED and modularity should be able to accomplish much more
with times to come. So in that sense this repackaged classic gem
gets plus for game improvement, but minus for smart modularity.
If
you read my report there you know that modularity is the new name of
the game -- it is expected to
shake
up the LED game market too. With it will come many new, unexpected and
as yet unpredictable electronic
games and toy concepts.
If
you are an avid fan of the cube (like I was) you will be
disappointed. You can not turn the cubes. They are there to light up,
but mostly to remind you of old times.

It
is a clever marketing frame
though. Wouldn't you sit up and take notice if it is about
the the
Revolution of
the Rubiks Cube?
Of course you would. And that's the point.
Beyond
that however, you might be pleasantly surprised. Because it will
require the dexterity of hand-to-eye coordination you got so used to
from turning and pivoting the cube. And my guess? It
will
entertain you. You will hear music and not-too-intuitive instructions
as you move around in the six locked games it offers.
The
good news for us Homo LED-ens ... ?
With
rubiks revamped cube the LED games begin to pass the retro-inventive
stage for good. Which is quite strange, given that a retro toy, the
reincarnation of the 80s craze, Rubiks Cube 'mark 2' that drives it.
