About Light Progress and LED light ...

LEDs may become the NEW symbol of progress, imagination and discovery - still connected to light, but replacing the old light bulb. Why, you ask?

professor Fink fun -- Fun-Le-Light counts BEYOND two

The story of progress to me is the story of our self-discovery. And the story of light kinda reflects that story. This in many ways leads to a yet new story, which is about LED lights. Talk about one track mind - I know.

Is light in fact an every day miracle ... ?

Silly quiestion right? Ok, then let's see quickly first how light really behaves. Because it does behave like it was built from energy-wave as well as a body that I think Newton first called corpuscula. Read more about Newton, Einstein and LED here.

The point is that light, just like us, is both energy and body. (Always one or the other, never both though.) And like the human condition was the source and inspiration for progress, so is light which is an every day miracle - to me at least it is. I'd say we are just made for light.

Now how about  L E Ds? Are they making the picture even more exciting? You bet.

LEDs can become the NEW symbol of progress and discovery...

There were times when the incandescent light bulb was the invention of inventions. Naturally, the light bulb had become the symbol of progress.
But light bulbs are solid, inefficient and a lot of energy is wasted on heat.
On the other hand LED light bulbs for intance are not even light bulbs.

Besides, light bulbs are "solid creatures" so to speak. They are made from solid materials like wolfram, metal, glass etc. Our body, on the other hand, was at last count made of over 70% water - quite a spoonful of liquid stuff.

So if light is much like us, can LEDs be made liquid too?

Well, yes they can. A special type of LED lights holding great promise is actually liquid. They are the Organic LEDs (or OLEDs)! But LED lights don't stop there. Oh no...!

Can LEDs process info like computers do?

You might get an idea that Leds are and will be able to do anything that computers can instruct them do. Well, the truth is, that this is more or less the present.

LEDs are actually semiconductors or chips. When they are excited with electricity they happen to emit some faint light that is then reinforced with reflectors. But because light is extracted from chips LEDs already can modulate some very rudimentary information. (The infra light from your remote that can signal a change of channels for instance comes from a special LED that emits in the infra red spectrum.)

The other "future that is not yet here" is even more amazing although a little more distant. Google up on the photonic processor if you are keen on some more details.

Scroll-thru-------------------------------------------------
You did? - and you returned here exhausted looking for some fun instead. Don't blame ya...Look at the bright side: you know now that various frequencies of light will control some new type of chips. You probably also know that to date we can speed up and slow down light (yes, we can even stop it moving) on the super slow-way of fiber optics. The promise it holds is that one day we will be able to process light directly with light (no more in-between silicon chip ma dear.) All that with an aggregate phase speed that is faster than light. Been there, done that…, woke up?

So ya'r more keen on having fun with light emitting diodes? Thank you for the support. (That warmth would feel good if only I could feel. It almost feels like being a human.) Gosh -- if only our future processors would make us less like machines and not more. Make a wish…

But that would certainly be the brightest progress for science for my money. And may be, just may be, with ligtning fast processing it could also be connected to light and LED. Who knows.
