LED Games - Reviews and Ideas
Electronic Game and Learning Products for the Homo LED-ens

This LED games review looks at some LED lighted
electronic games, product design
ideas and some associated learning concepts.
As you shall see these games haven't yet reached
their
true potential.
But
there are already signs of great things to come. Especially in the
modular field and with the emergence of
organic LEDs, also in the manifold realm.
LEDs
are
both a
light source and a chip. So they
have the makings of
an electronic game consol as well as the display screen. ... Ok,
can you start imagining the many ways more mature LED
games are gonna blow the mind?
Rubiks
Revolution is a New game in an Old box. Big pluses for
fun,
minus for lack of the signature modularity of old.
And
the Homo LEDens is ... What?
Ok, that settles it.
Homo LEDenS is
the phrase we brave to coin. And by that we mean that the oft-repeated
term Homo-Ludens (the playing human) covers merely the scores of
enlightened man/gal whose brain is built to play (mostly).
This is
indeed in sharp contrast with our LEDlightened
Homo-sapiens built ONLY to play AND only with LED (but of course.)

“The
LEDLightened 'Homo LEDens' plays only
with LED stuff...?

Is
this the
retro-inventive
game generation...?

TileToys
I
would count among
the most promising and probably eductional LED toys the TileToys
games.

Looks like some unassuming dominoe pieces. Look closer. Much
like a chameleon it can change its spots. But we have very few records
of
chameleons retaining their cunning ability to adapt AFTER being
dissected.
Take apart
these blocks and have even
more fun then dismembering reptiles can ever warm your heart. Like the
famous Randominoes in the novel
Nymphomation
by author
Jeff
Noon TileToy is a
new
age dominoe, indeed. The circuit here though is
somewhat smarter then a randomizer subroutine that the randominoes have.
Check out how it looks. Even better, if you
are
a die-hard do-it-yourselfer talk to them directly.
Not only
they don't mind you pestering them with silly questions, they actually
want you to. Silly
pitch? I think not. More like clever product building - the likes of
which one might like very much.

With
the LED-head Game bobbing up its
not-so-ugly but very retro head, we now
classifiy the current
pre-generation of LED electronic games as
retro-inventive.
When
Decoration Becomes Play
Speaking
of modularity, there is even a kind of LED
furniture that would round
up nicely this all-modular approach to ways for playing around with
LED. Yes, LED
furniture,
which is introducing a yet new dimension of fun into ones
silly and
warped world of LED Lighted stuff.
And if you 'dare', you too want to play
around with a
modular
and reconfigurable LED Lamp...
Because it is precisely modularity which is
the creative concept behind an ordinarily dull room furniture: the
otherwise
plain
desk
lamp. Rejuvenated with modular design and LED light it appears that for
some 'magic reason' folks seem to like the new level of freedom it
gives in interior decoration and architecture. Some even go as far as
call it architainment.

Now
what this just reminds me of ...
More modular,
more game. -- More int he future?

Frankly,
this
whole modular business reminds me of this
lighted
creative game.
Not
only it reminds me (ordinarily it's a
struggle to focus on most anything anyway) of the Build-It
blocks from Maya Engeli's eye-opening Bits and Spaces. More than that,
it tells us that one important future of LED games lie in expanding
the
concept of modularity
Playful
learning networks even? Hmmm...Stay
tuned for Maya adopting LED to her famous blocks.
