The
Inova LED Flashlight X Series
Ready,
set, evolve
The
Inova LED flashlight mini X series
is by now a fetish thing to many fans. It is commanding followers much
the same way as Mag Lites mini did at their heyday. And
when
you look at them, you begin to have an idea why.

LED flashlight X series (Mini)
From
concept to upgrade
...

If
you followed by reviews you'd probably know by know that a
bright LED unit
CAN have
its very own
micro-reflector. This means that you
don't really need the LED flashlight head to be built with a
continually transparent surface. And to have this imaginative high-tech
look I think Inova engineers and designers utilised the
idea to the
outmost. They punched little holes into
the body of the Inova LED flashlight for each bright little LED unit.
This has
effectively become the flashlight head without an additional lens. This
little monster looks unbeatable.
And
thus their new
mini range LED flashlight was born
with this
star-wars looking light "salt
shaker" as their flagship product. Here I review the
minis
from Mag, see the difference for yourself.
The
LED flashlight pictured is
the
Inova X5. It is made by the Emissive Energy Corp
(OEM.)
and can be seen at Inovalight.com. (Light-eaters from Planet Zorgg have
a couple on the dining table.
"A little more light on your
omelette?") Quality sci-fi-like build for your money. Nothing
was compromised on this one. The whole thing sure pleases the eye. The
light is narrow beam. Meaning your zorggy friend can easily go on a
light diet if they walk beside you. Only you'll see the LIGHT.

I
suggest when you check out more
about the new Inova series you look for the action shots for
actual brightness and also comments from referring owners.

The
newer XO series has an instant switch in the base, right under your
thumb.
Pity they are lighter on the salt
shaker concept though ... guess they more into light pouring. ON the
bright side, this design maximizes light yield claimed to be 90%. All
things being equal, that's pretty impressive. However, not everyone is
looking for just the practical. This could be one reason as to why this
model is nowhere near as popular as the mini X series or the newer
micro
series, which I will review next time.
Check
out the soft edges. This is what I meant before by
contrast-free
glow in the dark.
UPDATE:
I used to have several links to
ThinkGeek from
these
products because I think they are cool. But they no longer stock
any
Inova. I hear what you say
- yes -
it's a pity. And this has happened to many of my links which drove me
mad. (I set up a store to remedy the situation.) And I'll be revisiting
them to see if they change their
mind.
Problem
fixed for good?
Earlier
series
of the Inova LED flashlight had a known problem: after about a year or
so use the tail-end switch
that turns on the light failed because of some unspecified
grounding problem. It could not be repaired. So far it seems that the X
series have finally fixed this fault.
