Good automotive LED Lights can add personality, safety,
interactivity
The good and some Bad in LEDs To Spice Up, Mod Your car and
bike
Automotive LED lights no doubt add character and personality
using bright LED light units, clever patterns and snap-ons. There are
good and fun bits. But there are bad bits to know about too.
The Good
Bit

Right now, the entire field of automotive LED
- in particular exterior lighting - parts and kits is experiencing a
rapid growth. They key is energy efficiency.
Small surpise then, that for a trendy piece of metal horse that is
powered by limited amount of electricity bottled in your battery, LEDs
are
the
way to go. They use up
so
much less power much more
efficiently.
Quality LEDs also last a lifetime. But it's not much
concern in a car unless you want to 'recycle' your decorations or use
third party kits.
One of such kit is of course the Drivemocion product from
au-my.com and I
will look at it below.

Why you ask?
Well, because for the most part auto makers are good at always changing
the
design so you can only use them for your current model.
In other words, they
aren't likely to be overly compatible with too many
other
designs.
True, with a snap-on convenience of avaialble replacement parts that
also have the circuits theoretically you could use them for other
models.
And in some instances it's as easy as slapping on side mirrors with a
neat LED
strip. It adds
great
custom look and personality, and is a breaze to intall.
And of course there is the LED task lamp for garage work, that never
needs replacement.

A
few Bad Bits
Your reflectors are not being replaced by
LEDs
yet.
HID
lights are still peforming much better in that department.
And there is another pretty frustrating bit about automotive LED
lights. It is to do with the fact that they are often
blinding.
The following thread will
speak volumes about the unfortunate reality when speed to market
trumps standards of quality ...
I got a concerned email from
Dennis
at
berrymoorman.com:
“...
His was a complaint of sorts about red LED tail lights blinding
him when tailing a
Cadillac. He
asked if I could investigate the possible reasons. So I
looked
closer and a thread developed with others chiming in ...

Fun
Signal Auto LED Light

But of course, there
is
a huge pay off having
LEDs in
your car. It will guarantee to make it more fun in pretty clever ways.
It all started with
Knight
Rider in the car named KITT.
Remember?:

True to such 'rider-talk' legacy the folks at au-my have come out with
this little gem. It will communicate your feelings about your fellow
drivers without the need to pull down the window and dish abuse at
one-another. A nice "Thank You" or an unhappy face will do just fine.
Now of course it is going bonkers everywhere, just the way we like it
here at
fun-led-light.
- other fun signal lights, like Drivemocion
(photo above)
- auto
wheel lights (car and also bicycle, photo below)
- body kit lights (under car light kit)
And the number of all
kinds of clever uses is still growing ...
I particularly like the idea of making a light pattern with the help of
the fast revolving wheels. Because nothing will be visible, not even a
hint, while you ride is stationary. There is a commercial version for
cars as well as a more nimble one for bikes. I talk about both.

No display
While stationary -- Comes Alive when Moving

Wheel lights
create a
customised
display on
the side of your ride
-- and are quite a statement you might agree.
For your car it looks a bit different
then shown here. But for your bike it can easily be made from sticks
with color LED lights arranged in a relatively simple chasing pattern.
And with a clever controller, all kinds of patterns and images can
magically appear on the side of your ride.
They are
a true personal touch and much like some other auto LED lights
discussed -- can carry all kinds of messages.
